Intern Chemical Engineering, Chemistry

Date: Aug 31, 2026

Location: NL

Company: Trespa

Who are we?

Nemho is the center for innovation, technology and sustainability within the Broadview Holding Materials Group. The companies in this cluster manufacture and sell surface materials and related products, such as high pressure laminates (HPL). Nemho headquarters is located in Weert, the Netherlands, from where we work closely with our other locations. Nemho employs over 50 technicians, engineers and chemists responsible for the development and continuous improvement of products and processes by implementing new and innovative technologies.

Project description

High pressure laminate is a wood-based composite material, with applications including façade cladding, furniture and interior surface covering (e.g. for laboratories). Typically, HPL is made with paper and phenol-formaldehyde thermoset resin, where different material composition and processing conditions results in a range of product properties. Understanding and optimizing the materials and processes is key to improving product performance, reducing waste, improving efficiency, and developing more sustainable materials.

The main goal of this internship project is formulating biobased thermoset resins for various HPL processes and applications. Aspects to consider include the resin reactivity, formulation stability, and the properties that the resin imparts on the final panel.

This internship can be adapted to emphasize aspects such as chemistry, material science or chemical engineering, depending on your focus area. In all cases the project will involve a hands-on approach in a laboratory setting.

What do you bring

We are looking for a bachelor student in their final year (HBO or WO, graduation thesis) or a master student (WO) in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or a related field. You should have professional fluency in both spoken and written English. Previous experience with (biobased) thermosetting resins, resin synthesis, and analytical techniques (chemical and thermal) is a benefit. An attitude for working safely and securely in a lab environment is a must. We’re looking for someone who isn’t afraid to ask questions, test ideas, and propose smarter solutions.

Join an energetic R&D team at Nemho, where innovation drives our mission. This is an opportunity to grow professionally and work in a dynamic and innovative field. If you’re ready to make a real impact on next-generation materials and eco-friendly manufacturing, we want you in our team!
