Quality Engineer

How do you turn quality data into structural improvements? And how do you establish whether quality requirements are clear, measurable and consistently achievable?

At Trespa, these questions are central to the role of Quality Engineer. You monitor quality performance across our production lines, investigate product deviations and translate your findings into structural improvements. You also examine whether specifications and inspection methods provide the right basis for consistent product quality.

Reporting directly to the Manager Engineering, you work closely with Production, R&D, Quality and our process and project engineers. Your role combines advanced statistical analysis with practical investigation on the shop floor and the ability to bring people together around technically sound solutions.

Your role & responsibilities:

You investigate the relationship between raw materials, process conditions and product quality. When deviations occur, you use production data, statistical analysis and practical observations to identify and substantiate their causes. Together with the relevant teams, you develop improvements, support their implementation and verify their effectiveness. Depending on the scope, you may also lead improvement projects yourself.

You critically assess existing quality requirements. R&D is responsible for defining specifications; your role is to evaluate how these perform in practice and challenge them with evidence where necessary. Are we measuring the right characteristics? Can suppliers consistently achieve the agreed limits? And do those limits adequately reflect the needs of our production processes?

You help align quality expectations and translate them into clear, workable assessment criteria across our production departments and other companies within the Broadview Group. Regular contact, including visits to our sister companies approximately once a month, allows you to maintain strong working relationships, align expectations and address concerns before they escalate.

Your initial focus

Your first priorities include making inspections more consistent across operators and production lines, strengthening CoA management and aligning quality expectations across relevant teams and sister companies.

You will also help shape the contribution of Quality Engineering within Trespa by identifying where stronger methods, tools or collaboration are needed and turning those needs into concrete proposals.

This role offers the opportunity to combine scientific reasoning with visible improvements in production, while helping define how we assess, achieve and sustain product quality.

Your responsibilities on the job:

  • Monitor quality performance across production lines, identify trends and investigate recurring or emerging deviations.
  • Use advanced statistical methods to distinguish normal process variation from meaningful changes and to investigate and substantiate root causes.
  • Assess whether the characteristics and limits reported in supplier Certificates of Analysis (CoAs) are relevant to our processes, achievable for suppliers and aligned with Trespa’s requirements.
  • Develop systematic and increasingly automated CoA monitoring to identify trends, detect deviations and initiate timely action when raw materials fall outside agreed requirements.
  • Establish consistent inspection practices, including lighting conditions, assessment methods and clear acceptance and rejection criteria that operators can apply reliably.
  • Work with R&D and other stakeholders to evaluate specifications and substantiate proposals for change.
  • Build a shared understanding across the relevant Broadview companies of the required quality level for semi-finished and finished products, and translate agreements into consistent assessment practices.
  • Contribute to the development and validation of automated defect detection, ensuring that detection criteria reflect relevant product defects and agreed quality requirements.
  • Work with process and project engineers to implement improvements and verify that they deliver the intended results.

What you bring and what we are looking for:

What you bring:

You combine analytical depth with a practical approach. You are comfortable working with large and complex datasets, but you also seek out the operators and engineers who understand what happens in production.

You can explain complex findings clearly to people with different backgrounds. You understand organisational interests and cultural differences, build constructive relationships and address disagreements with tact. You stand behind well-supported conclusions, even under pressure, while remaining open to new evidence.

What we are looking for:

  • At least a bachelor’s degree at Dutch HBO level or a university degree in a relevant technical or scientific discipline, combined with a hands-on approach.
  • Strong data analysis skills and advanced knowledge of applied statistics, including statistical process control, process capability analysis, regression and design of experiments.
  • The ability to translate analytical findings into practical recommendations and measurable improvements.
  • Experience applying these skills in manufacturing or an industrial environment.
  • Preferably, knowledge of Python for data processing, analysis and automation.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to constructively challenge assumptions and established practices.
  • Good command of Dutch and English and willingness to travel to Italy approximately once a month.
